THE CADDIE: WHY NOBODY WINS ALONE AT AGUSTA
Written By: Chet Hayes, Vertosoft CTO
There is no tournament quite like the Masters. Every April, while most people are watching the leaderboard, I find myself watching something else. The relationship between the golfer and the caddie.
A recent example that sticks with me is Scottie Scheffler and Ted Scott. When Scheffler won Augusta in 2022, he was already one of the best players in the world. What stood out was everything in between the shots. The conversations. The pace. The calm. Ted Scott brought a steady presence that kept Scheffler focused and thinking clearly when the pressure was at its highest. You could see how they worked through each moment together. Nothing rushed. Nothing forced.
That win was not just about talent. It was about trust, preparation, and having the right voice beside you when it matters most.
Our Role at Vertosoft
That dynamic is exactly how I think about what we do at Vertosoft. Our partners and customers are the golfers. They have the vision, the technology, and the responsibility to execute. The environment they operate in across the public sector is not simple. It is complex, demanding, and full of challenges that are not always obvious upfront.
Our role is to be the caddie.
Reading the Course. We are not guessing. We understand the terrain because we have been through it before. Cloud marketplaces, contract vehicles, compliance requirements. These are not one-off situations for us. We help our partners see the full picture so they can plan the right approach.
Club Selection. There is no single approach that works every time. Sometimes the right move is a traditional contract vehicle. Other times it is the Cloud Marketplace or a hybrid path. The key is understanding the options and choosing the one that gives our partners the clearest, most efficient path forward.
Managing Risk. In this space, the mistakes that hurt the most are often the ones you did not see coming. A missed requirement or a procurement issue can slow everything down. We spend time upfront helping our partners avoid those problems so they can move with confidence.
The Steady Voice. When things get complicated, having someone who can simplify the path forward makes a difference. Not by pretending it is easy, but by breaking it down into steps that are clear and actionable.
The Trusted Voice
The best caddies are not the loudest. They are the most trusted. They are not the ones hitting the shots, and they are not the ones in the spotlight. But they are right there in every decision that leads to the final result.
At the Masters, nobody wins alone. The same is true in our world. At Vertosoft, our focus is simple. Help our partners remove friction, make better decisions, and stay focused on what they do best.
Because in the end, the difference between a good outcome and a great one usually comes down to who you trust to help you make those decisions.
