National Women’s History Month is celebrated in March in the United States to recognize the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. It is a time to reflect on the progress that has been made, to honor the courage and determination of the women who have played a role in shaping our country, and to continue to fight for gender equality. Throughout this month, we have been spotlighting numerous women in the technology sector, with the aim of offering guidance to women entering this traditionally male-dominated field. As this month of recognition draws to a close, some of the Vertosoft women share their reasons for choosing to work in the technology industry.
“Technology is now abundantly present in nearly all facets of life. I always wanted to be involved in an industry that not only recognizes but embraces change and uses it as a guidepost for innovation. Knowing that I can expect an adaptive, fast-paced dynamic everyday leaves me fulfilled and always looking forward.” ~ Ashlianne Shigley, Government Contracts Program Manager
“Growing up in the Northern Virginia area, I was exposed to many individuals, including my parents, work for the Government. I saw the successful careers that people can have working in or with the Government, and I knew that was a career path I wanted to explore. I have always had a creative side since I was young, so going to school to learn how to use that creativity to create, manage and leverage marketing campaigns came naturally to me, and integrating that with helping agencies break into the public sector seemed like a perfect match. I couldn’t be happier showing the place that women have in marketing and sales and hope to be that influence that I saw in my parents at a young age, to women entering the technology workforce in the future.” ~ Ashley Somma, Digital Marketing Specialist
“I chose this industry back in college when I chose to be a Business Management major. I knew that there were certain obstacles I would face as a woman in a male-dominated industry, but I knew I had unique perspectives as a woman that would help me succeed as well. Being able to prove myself by finding success and fulfillment in this industry has been an extremely rewarding challenge that I am very grateful for.” ~ Jenna Weltz, Senior Sales Operations Lead
“I chose to join this industry because technology is an exciting and continuously evolving field with vast opportunities to support government initiatives and needs. Being able to see the impact technology has in moving our government’s programs further is a rewarding experience and I am grateful to be a part of that process.” ~ Jordan Lail, Renewal Contract Manager
“I chose to join this industry because it allows me to make a tangible difference. Every sale isn’t just about closing a deal; it’s about enabling our government agencies to serve their communities better by using emerging technology. I chose Vertosoft because we are a close-knit company that values the importance of the work we do day in and day out.” ~ Maddie Clark, Customer Success Representative
“Tech is a rapidly growing industry with a lot of changes that allow individuals to learn and grow their skillsets. With that said, there’s a lot of underrepresentation for women in tech and/or sales, especially BIPOC women. I want to help to continue to foster the diversity in the space in any way, shape, or form as I continue to grow within my career.” ~ Maria Pineda, Inside Sales Manager
“I chose to join this industry because I knew that its constantly changing nature would ensure that no two days would be the same. The ability to market in an industry that is fast-paced and always evolving is extremely rewarding. Being able to work such a supportive team here at Vertosoft makes me want to further my career in this industry.” ~ Mary Dawson, Marketing Manager
“My interest in joining this industry is due to the ever-evolving growth of today’s technology. The added opportunity to be able to assist the government through technological innovations further enhanced my interest in this field.” ~ Nikki Bongianino, Channel Marketing Specialist
